Moments before
the camera is time for FOCUSED IMAGERY and Linklater
breath exercises..
Here are notes
from Carla on the set:
 |
It
was 5:00am and I needed to be ready at 6:00am to begin shooting,
I was already getting into My character's life and what was
happening to Miranda (my character) before and after each
of the scenes I was going to do today. By the way the make-up
room was a silent room as well, nobody was allowed to speak
there, because the actors needed concentration. |
Rehearsing
with Swiss director, Sabine
Boss, and the international cast on set, applying
the Exercise: PHYSICAL
DESTINATION to the work environment. Let your classes
support your work.
The
director and I were discussing what was it she needed
to get from this scene even though we already rehearsed
it like 15 times days before.
I
found her continuous insight so incredibly helpful because
movie-making, as you all know, is not chronologically
shot and she wanted to make sure we were "in the moment"
to play the scenes.
When
I saw this particular picture I realized how much in character
I was talking to the director and imagining the scene
coming along.
|
 |
 |
The
third day of shooting, we were doing a master shot of an important
scene, and the director was explaining to me the timing of
my entrance (which by the way was a very challenging process
because I needed to enter the frame 3 times for different
reasons, and of course with different insights, all in about
1 minute, Uffffffff.... Movie making) |

April/2001

AACT,
Region V Festival, Sioux City, Iowa.
With the muddy Missouri and raging Big Sioux rivers surrounding
us at near flood stage, I presented a workshop during a most moving
and inspiring weekend in Sioux City, Iowa. Actors from South Dakota,
Minnesota, Kansas, Nebraska and Iowa attended my workshop on the
Hagen Object Exercises.
The future
of Theatre is in good hands in the Midwest, for these actors have
such fresh, vibrant energy, the heart of America work ethic and
commitment and unbridled joy about their work. A number of them
already have their career courses mapped out with agent invitations
to move to LA and Chicago.
These actors
have extensive regional stage resumes and on-location film experience
as well. The new Jack Nicholson film will be shot in and around
the area. The reaction to the workshop was overwhelming and I
am working on future workshops in Kansas and Nebraska.
