UNITED STATES AND EUROPE

You have truly changed my life, Marc. I don't know if you will remember me. My name is Coco Kleppinger and I did a couple of workshops with you down here in Denver. I am about to start my third year of college at the fantastic University of Wyoming. I say fantastic becuause the program is truly amazing here. I've lived, breathed, eaten, and spoken Hagen, Stanislavski, and Meisner for the past two years and I can't wait to go a third round.

But you got me started. I use your e-mails in the classes I teach for beginning actors, I am more confident about my work and I quote my notes from your workshop as much as I quote Hagen, Meisner and Stanislavski. You are truly an inspiration to me. You teach me every day that it is a process and an art and I can only hope to make it as true as possible. "Making it" for me has taken on a whole new meaning. I just wanted to take a moment and let you know that you have made such an incredible impact on me, clear across the country. I am so grateful to have gotten to work with you. Thank you.

I simply wanted to thank you for the marvellous workshop...tons of pertinent advice which, if heeded, will mark the difference between run-of-the-mill theatre and truthful acting affording almost palpable communication with the audience.

...quality advice is often thin on the ground and it is such a thrill when a true expert like yourself walks in and cuts through all the bollocks. I find myself returning to my notes from the workshop with great regularity.

Thank you....Thank you...Thank you for coming to Denver and giving us so much, again, of your talent and commitment to training actors at the highest level. I am challenged working in this disciplined, passionate way. And no longer is creating a character or developing a scene a hit and miss process. It is action, pure and simple. What a relief for a dancer/actress to be allowed to move into a role. The duo improv was an eye opener for me. It was great to hear that not all of it was great! I am tired of hearing "that was wonderful" for feedback. You're so picky and I love it because you will not allow the untrue moments to slip by unnoticed. I have learned so much in the past year working with you. I am looking forward to more of the same.

This weekend's performances were milestones in my development as an actor. I thank you for giving me a rock solid base upon which to stand.

I wanted to thank you so much for all that you taught us. I know that I learned a lot, and am very grateful for all your effort. I bought Uta Hagen's new book, and I've just started reading it. So far, it has already taught me a lot. It's a great book, and i hope to learn a lot more about her methods of teaching. On the last day, Sunday, (during the Linklater process/Shakespeare Sonnet LXV ) when I cried, acting meant more to me then it ever has before. Those simple words on paper opened up my heart, and I SAW someone that was very dear to me. I now know what TRUE acting is about. Thank you so much for all that you taught me, again...someday you just may see me on your TV.

I did an independent film shoot yesterday...and was able to apply many of the techniques we have learned from you such as answering the questions in the Six Steps and putting the character into action. Wow, what a difference it made. Up to this point I have been able to apply the bits and pieces I had been learning. This time I was able to incorporate what we have been learning much more fully. All that folding laundry, talking on the phone and looking for things made the process much more automatic and natural. Just like working on dance technique. I know there is more to learn, but what I have learned and practiced so far has been immensely helpful...I was able to be repeatable without being static, discovering more aspects to the character and the scene the more takes we did, finding the actions of cooking, greeting, etc. akin to folding laundry (same principles, different task) and allowing the character to be continually in the moment. Some takes were stronger than others, but every take breathed and was real on some level. At the end of the day, I found that attempting and often accomplishing truth was a far more gratifying process than others (techniques) I have tried. It was also more tiring (maybe because I am still relatively new to this), but so much more rewarding in the process and the result that I ended up having a blast!

I want to continue classes with you. I'm very passionate and motivated to be truthful in my acting and to develop myself in the Hagen exercises.

It takes me a while to reflect on what I learned at the weekend and evening workshops. I think I am seeing that I am more focused on my craft. I am making more sense of the technique and I am being more self reflecting. I have had a few impulses that I didn't act on, but now realize that if I had, the scene would have been more interesting. Juaquin was right, real life is boring, but true conflict is interesting to watch. Your teaching style is very relaxed and easy to follow. Your wit and humor make watching the long exercises enjoyable.

Thank you so much for your continued interest in my students and our program. The play was a success and many of my students employed ideas and concepts directly from your workshop to their roles. I want to take the time to tell you what a benefit your workshop was to both myself and my students! Your workshop enabled them to do several things. One of its most important results, in my opinion, is a greater understanding for my students of acting as a discipline and as a craft. My students are developing an understanding that there is so much more work to do than the memorization of lines. You also gave them in just three days a variety of resources and tools to continue to develop their craft after your departure. Many of my students have commented that your workshop has given them a whole new way to develop a role.

As for myself, you have changed what I expect from my students and therefore how I teach them. You taught me not only about acting (and by the way, the Hagen principles are so much more easily grasped when presented in person by someone who has internalized their use) but also about setting high standards for my students. You demanded a level of proffesionalism from them and demonstrated to me that they were capable of meeting your expectations.

Thank you so much for your willingness to share your talent with us. My students are continuing to study the Hagen principles and to develop better acting technique by building on the foundation you presented! I have recommended your workshop to a variety of other directors and teachers both on a high school and a collegiate level because of the great benefit I believe it had for my students and myself! I'll continue to update you on their progress and plans for next year! Thank you once again!

I just wanted to say thank you for this weekend's workshop. It was absolutely phenomenal. It opened up so many new doors for me. It's almost like I'm an infant again faced with so many new opportunities as well as challenges and I'm very excited to take each and every one of them head on.

Your teachings are so affective, within the very short four days you were here I saw a difference in all of your students. It was amazing to watch all of the light bulbs go on, and all of the doors that were opened because of your knowledge expressed and time spent with us.

You introduced such a truthful way to start from and continue on through. Now I know with practice and repetition of the Hagen Exersices I will be able to express my work from an honest place. As a beginner I want to thank-you for helping me start out in the best place possible. An honest place. Thanks again.

I attended a workshop and I can definitely say that it was the greatest acting experience I have ever had...He definitely, without a doubt, knows his stuff. Thanks Marc!

Marc just completed a four day intensive with the actors here in Denver. The students here, ages from 16 through 66, were all raving about his instruction and his expertise. This is the second time we've had Marc out to Denver and he has filled the hall.

Marc offers an in-depth seminar on Ms. Hagen's technique - a foundation of artistic strength that every actor pursuing the craft should develop. I couldn't help to think about how much I was learning watching Marc and how fortunate especially the young folks were for being exposed to the best developmental tools I've seen in twenty years of teaching acting. Marc offers a polished, entertaining and easily understandable seminar, and I know (just like us) you'll want to bring him back again and again!

My creative spirit was energized after the workshop, and I want you to know it was a life-changing experience. Thank you so much. I also appreciate how you were so respectful of our beliefs and feelings. You pushed us which is what we needed. Thank you.

I have a scene... I am both dancing and acting in this scene....I am finding that dancing can be thought of as the ACTION of acting, so I am not sure if there is such a definite line between the two for me any more. I'm still exploring this idea. The dancing I am doing now feels much more informed for me with your technique applied to it. ... I am finding that images and real actions are very powerful initiators of behavior and emotions, not only for myself, but for the cast (130 total!) who have been watching this scene. Men and women have been coming up to me after watching this scene, crying and telling me how moving and powerful this scene is.

I believe that what I have learned about images, real actions and struggling through emotions (rather than breaking down) have invested this scene with a power that I would not have been possible without this training from you .... Thank you.

Thank you so much for coming to Chicago to give your workshop. I enjoyed it so much! I was so engaged when you spoke; I could listen to you for hours. When I got home, I found myself noticing so much more about mine and other people's behaviors. I unconsciously ask the reason, and then I realize I'm still at the workshop. I feel like I have so much to work with now, or rather, so much more than I had, to use when I do auditions, or monologues/scenes for classes.

It was an amazing week end for me, and I am so glad I signed up for it. I hope you can come back next year.

Thank you for sharing with us your energy, humor, knowledge, experiences, and especially your passion. I was able to begin applying some of your lessons, on my Monday shoot. I will be a better actor because of your teachings.

I want to thank you for the workshop this weekend. I feel opened up to new ways of seeing. You are an incredible teacher and your energy embraces the room...for me the concept of imagination creates behavior makes perfect sense. I hope you will do us the honor of coming back for the three week workshop. I for one would consider it a challenge to put myself on the line in the name of change and growth.

I so enjoyed your workshop....your energy is undiminished. I needed the boost, that's for sure!...workshops like yours, help us concentrate on our focal point----not to mention spur us to act....the very things we espouse and then sometimes fail ourselves to do.....Thanks.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP: I loved it. It very seriously changed the way I think about acting, the art and the business. Your process seemed to hit me more. I appreciated you talking to me as an adult instead of a teen and your professionalism did more to show me about the business than any lecture ever could. Because of your workshop I now very much want to work with Ms. Hagen and I am very excited about your fall workshop. You definitely made a difference. Thank you.

Thank you very much for coming to Chicago earlier this month. You made the art of acting much clearer for me, and others as well. I think I speak for a number of others who participated in the workshop when I say thank you for sharing your wisdom with us.

Wow, that class last weekend was outstanding! I learned so much. I just went to an audition for an AT&T commercial and I broke down my character completely and understood everything about my character. It was so cool though, cause when I was driving down to the audition, I actually thought, felt, and acted like the college student that I was about to play.

When I got to the audition, they gave me a different script then the one I had memorized, but it was the same character. I wasn't scared like I usually was; I was not even nervous. I WAS the college student and the words didn't matter. All my choices and reasoning were the same. It was just so easy to actually be the character imagining things that happened to me(as the character) and nothing felt fake.

This process completely turned around my career. It made me go from booking 40% of work to 100% of work. I now imagine things that would be going through the character's head and it all seems like it is happening to me. I never think about the words in a script anymore. I used to remember my cue line and then say my line from there. Now, the words become a part of me and they naturally flow out. Thanks a bunch Marc for changing my acting career. You are the best!

I enjoyed taking your acting workshop in Heidelberg. It gave me some things to think about and ideas for how to keep performances fresh and alive. Thanks again and hope your schedule allows you to come back to Germany again someday.
